He was born in Kosmas Kynourias in 1963. He studied at the Athens School of Fine Arts under Panayiotis Tetsis and Yannis Valavanidis (1982-1987). He continued his studies in Paris, at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts (1988-1991), under Leonardo Cremonini, on grants by the Basil and Elise Goulandris Foundation and the Bakalas Foundation. He presented his first solo exhibition in 1988 at Medusa (Athens).
His painting is part of a general trend of young painters of the '80s towards figurative art and traditional techniques. The human form and interior spaces are his primary subjects, while landscapes appear less often. His solitary figures develop a particular relationship with space, which emphasizes the dramatic element of the compositions. His scenes acquire a psychographic dimension, since the individuality and personal expression of the model are highlighted. The same principles apply for his female nudes, which have dominated his painting in recent years. The manipulation of colour determines the atmosphere in all his subjects, at times permeating it with sensual tension, and other times with a rather melancholic air.
He collaborated with the Center for Arts and Letters Apopsi, (1996-2002) and the Artistic Group Simio, teaching painting (2002 to present). He has received significant awards for his work: In 2001 he was awarded with the title ‘Young Artist under 40’ by the Academy of Athens, and in 2006, he was awarded by the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation for the totality of his oeuvre.
He has presented a limited number of solo exhibitions, mainly in Athens (permanent collaboration with the art gallery Medusa), but also in Paris (1996) and New York (2004). He participated in the exhibition Towards a New Humanism, curated by Marina Lambraki-Plaka at the Espace des Esselieres (Villejuif, Paris, 1990), and in many other group exhibitions and international events in Greece, France, Italy, Germany, U.S.A., etc.
