He was born in Athens in 1961. He is a graduate of the History & Archaeology Department, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Athens (1987) and a Doctor in History of Art, Department of Fine and Applied Arts, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1997). He has also studied at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (1984), the Sorbonne (Paris I, DEA in History of Art, Paris, 1988), and the City University of New York, U.S.A. (1991-1992).
He teaches Modern & Contemporary Art History in the Department of Theory and History of Art at the Athens School of Fine Arts, as an associate professor. He has also taught at the University of Crete and the Greek Open University.
He was assistant editor-in-chief of the journal The Art Magazine (1993-1997) and editor of the Dictionary of Greek Artists (Melissa Publ., 1997-2000). He has also published the following art books: The Painting of Giorgio de Chirico: the syntax of the metaphysical space (Opera Critica Publ., Athens 2001), The Artist as a History Subject: from the 19th to the 21st century (Agra Publ., Athens 2004). He is expected to publish two more art books shortly.
His writings published in history journals, art magazines or newspapers, include studies and essays on art, solo and group exhibitions' reviews (Greek and foreign artists), and also reviews for Greek and foreign books (on aesthetics and art history). He has co-authored texts for catalogues of major exhibitions, monographs and collective volumes. Moreover, he has translated works by Ernst H. Gombrich, Jacques Derrida, Clement Greenberg, et al.
He is a founding member of the Association of Greek Art Historians (EEIT) and has participated in steering committees of three Art History conferences (2000, 2005 and 2012). He has curated solo and thematic exhibitions, and has edited books and e-publications on art, history and education.
