Terracotta art gallery was founded in 1983 at the center of Thessaloniki by Katerina Pesmatzoglou, economist and Andromachi Pesmatzoglou, architect. In 1988 the art historian and Director of Edsvik Konsthall in Stockholm, Stavroula Goudaki, joined the gallery as an artistic advisor, and the presentation of regular exhibitions began. More than 6 contemporary art exhibitions were being organized per year, alongside events such as lectures, seminars, films, performances, discussions, etc., in order to promote new forms of expression and a broader dialogue between artists and public.
Since 1991, the gallery collaborates with various local institutions, such as the Cultural Organization of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the French, the German and the Italian Institute of Thessaloniki, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art and the Thessaloniki Film Festival, co-organizing numerous events with Greek and foreign artists (Yann Fabes, Leonardo Cremonini, Kyriakos Rokos, and many more).
In 2002, following Katerina Pesmatzoglou’s resignation, the gallery was officially renamed TinT. The main objective of the new management is to create an environment that supports and promotes young, mainly, artists and curators. Emphasis is laid on collaborations with foreign galleries (Por Amor a Arte, Porto; Inge Baecker, Cologne; Brown Bag Contemporary, San Francisco; Boots Contemporary Art Center, St. Louis; Patrick Heide Contemporary Art, London, et. al.), as well as on participations in international art fairs (Miart, Milan; Preview Berlin, Berlin; The Volta Show, Basel; Drawing Now, Paris, et. al.), an activity that was standardized in recent years, continuing to date.
The ongoing permanent exhibition of artworks, the production of art publications, the creation of the Project room for experimental in situ installations of young artists, and the collaboration with autonomous artistic groups are only some of the gallery’s current activities. At the same time, it continues to cooperate with local institutions for the organization of large-scale cultural events.
